Meet Jacara Tucker


Jacara Tucker is Junior at Temple University studying journalism. But when she is not busy with classes she is often at a hair salon doing assistant work. Or home where she works her own hair business out of her apartment. 
Tucker has been doing hair ever since she was in high school and it started with just her friends and family and grew by word of mouth. Although she doesn't see a career in hair she definitely finds it a useful side hustle while in college and a skill she's glad she's learned.

Maintaining Natural Hair

Natural hair can be really tricky to maintain especially when you have textured and thick hair like I do. My hair tends to be more dry than oily, so hydration is always my top priority. When I wear my natural hair, I like to use coconut oil, or jojoba oil to keep it soft. Shampoo is also important, and using one with no sulfate makes all the difference.

Avoiding Heat Damage

Many people opt to go natural in fear of damaging their hair with excessive heat. Having worn my hair natural and straightened, I know the struggle. Putting too much heat on your hair will mess up your curl pattern, that is unavoidable.  However you can still have healthy hair and wear it straightened. The key to this is to not put too much heat on your hair. Setting a schedule for yourself if very important. Everyday straightening should be avoided, try opting for once a week, or every two weeks if possible. This schedule will insure that your hair is not taking too much heat, keeping it at a healthy balance.
